skeet season closed: some thoughts for the die hards
well its getting really cold now ....and its getting harder to drag yourself away from the central heating and get down to the skeet feild
but ....its also a great opportunity to sort some things out for the next season
typically the season will kick of around May time ...but there are some events starting as early as March ...so check on the skeet calender for latest news ! it will be updated as news comes out regarding 2010 events
the off seasons always a good time to buy new equipment ...and get it thoroughly tested out and become comfortable with it.. ready for the start of next season
its also a good time to change those bits of shooting style or form that you need to do..... to improve your game ....as well as drop those bad habits you have picked up....some problems you dont even know you have until some-one points them out to you.
doing this during the off season is going to pay dividends for you , because instead of picking up your scores towards the end of the season ....you will be on the nose... at the start
its often a good time to try an alternative discipline ...what ...i hear you say !!! well.... i would say that a change is often better than a rest ....and coming back to the skeet season raring to go fresh and refreshed is better than coming to it bored....so give something else a try ...it might even improve your skeet game !!!!!
try mixing things up with doubles, try NSSA ...or if your'e feeling brave try out Olympic skeet
get some lessons in ......during the closed season ...coaches will be less busy and better able to give you the time you need.
if you're ging to change your gun ....do it now !!!! ......it can take longer than you think to get used to a new gun ( and i am talking from bitter experience here ) i have been so dissapointed and frustrated with my performance after changing to a heavier gun.
make a plan for the next season ....personal goals , and plan where you are going to shoot and what competitions ...book in squads with freinds to increase the enjoyment of your sport
thats about it ...if anyone wants to add anything i would appreciate the comments
best of luck
